"There is NO choice but success"

Parent's Corner

Hello Parents and Guardians,

We could not do our jobs without your help and support.  Thanks for everything that you do!  The children LOVE when you visit.  Volunteers are welcome in the classroom.  Please contact us if you would ever like to visit and help with lessons or read to the students.  Make sure that you have completed the proper forms from the FCPS website before volunteering!

Blue Folders

Each student has a Blue Booker T. Washington Folder.  This folder comes home on the first day of each school week and should be returned the following day.  In the Blue Folder, you will find things like newsletters, calendars, field trip permission slips, and forms about upcoming events that your student can participate in.  You will also receive forms in the Blue Folder that often need to be returned the following day signed.  When your child comes home from the first day of school each week, please make it a routine to check their Blue Folder, sign and return any necessary forms, and sign/date the communication log on the back of the folder so I know that you saw everything.

Homework

Students will have a red folder for their homework.  Students will also have a homework log each week and should keep track of their assignments and completion of assignments.

Your child will receive 6 homework assignments per week- 3 reading assignments that deal with that week’s literacy concepts and 3 math assignments that reinforce the math concepts from the previous week.  Students will receive all six assignments on the first day of the school week.  All homework will be due on Friday or the last day of school each week (please note that changes to the amount of homework and dues dates will be made when we do not have a 5 day school week).

 Planner Checks

Students have individual agendas or planners that they use to write down daily objectives.  Parents or guardians are expected to sign their child's planner at the bottom of the page every day.  We have planner checks each morning upon arrival.  The planner allows you to see what we are doing in class each day and allows for communication to take place between the teacher and home.  When signing the planner each night, please make sure to check for notes or comments from the teacher.  You will also find a label each day that tells you about your child's behavior each day.

How Can We Communicate?

Communication and support from both school and home is key in ensuring that your child receives the best education possible. Please know that part of our job is being here to answer any questions or concerns you may have about your child’s education.  There are several ways that we will be able to keep in contact throughout the year:

·       Planner:  Each student at BTWA has a planner that they bring to school daily to record their learning objectives.  The planner is a great way to communicate with us because we look at it every morning when they arrive to school and sign it every afternoon before they are dismissed.  We document daily behavior in the planner and will often write reminder notes of some kind.   Please make it a nightly routine to check and sign your child’s planner.

·       Phone:  If you call the school, they will transfer you to my classroom phone.  Please feel free to contact me by phone before 7:45 or after 2:35.  You may also call between the hours of 10:15 and 11:05.

·       E-mail

·       Blue Folder:  There is a communication log on the back of the Blue Folder which you can use to communicate.

·       Conference: Please use one of the methods above to contact me so we can set up a time that is convenient if you wish to meet in person.
